Drawn from vines planted on Voyager's gravelly loam soils, the Sauvignon (61%) brings fresh, crunchy drive with tropical aromas and flavours, while the Semillon (39%)--sourced from the North Block 10 vineyard planted in 1995--contributes pithy lemon notes, palate weight and structure. All the vines are hand-pruned, shoot-thinned and yields are regulated to ensure consistency from season to season.
2020 was a terrific vintage in the Margaret River, with the whites displaying pristine fruit with freshness and bright varietal expression. A small component of barrel-fermented Semillon and some lees contact brings additional complexity and texture to the palate, but the finish has that clean, snappy close expected of this style.
Despite viticulture being barely 50 years old (with the first vines being planted in the 1960's), the Margaret River wine region has firmly established itself as a global rising star. The climate of the region is so befitting to winemaking (and similar to the French region) that it is commonly called Australia's answer to Bordeaux.
The vignerons of Australia's west coast have quickly harnessed this ancient terroir, which is suited perfectly to viticulture, and now produce 25% of Australia's premium wine. Amongst other varietals, the elegant Cabernets, Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blanc of the Margaret River won't disappoint even the most discerning of tastebuds.
