62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot with the fruit coming mainly from the North Block and Weightmans vineyards, located near the coast in the Wallcliffe sub-region of Margaret River. If the Girt by Sea Chardonnay offers excellent value, this Voyager favourite hits it out of the park.
It's a vibrant, blackcurrant and violet-noted wine with a soft, smooth core (from the whole berry ferment) and some fine tannins to close. Matured in a combination of new, two and three year seasoned oak for 12 months. Following maturation, a select parcel of Petit Verdot (drawn from Voyager's Cordis 1 block) was added to provide a lifted violet aromatic profile.
Despite viticulture being barely 50 years old (with the first vines being planted in the 1960's), the Margaret River wine region has firmly established itself as a global rising star. The climate of the region is so befitting to winemaking (and similar to the French region) that it is commonly called Australia's answer to Bordeaux.
The vignerons of Australia's west coast have quickly harnessed this ancient terroir, which is suited perfectly to viticulture, and now produce 25% of Australia's premium wine. Amongst other varietals, the elegant Cabernets, Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blanc of the Margaret River won't disappoint even the most discerning of tastebuds.
